A new resource for the career education sector

After a busy start to the year, the Good Education Group is excited to introduce a new publication — The Good Careers Guide. The Guide was officially launched on 10 May at Melbourne Museum, with speeches from Good Education Group CEO, Chris Lester; Career Industry Council of Australia Executive Director, David Carney; and Royal Institution of Australia (RiAus) — Australia’s Science Channel Director, Dr Paul Willis.

A career is a lifelong journey, making resources that explore skills, interests and employment opportunities crucial. With 2015 marking the last edition of the federal government’s Job Guide, we felt it was important that the key information contained within the guide continued to be delivered to students, career advisers and parents — and so The Good Careers Guide was born! The Good Careers Guide features everything you know and love from Job Guide, including more than 400 job descriptions and detailed education and training information, while providing new and improved content, tailored to meet the needs of students entering the modern-day education and careers climate.

We recognise that the workforce is continually evolving, with new opportunities, skill requirements and ways of working. While a greater number of school leavers are pursuing non-compulsory education, the number of Australians commencing apprenticeships has declined. We aim to educate students about the full breadth of options available to them, as well as what to expect when they do enter the workforce.

In 2016, The Good Careers Guide provides a focus on STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) careers. It responds to the predicted growth in these areas, as well as skill shortages reported by government and industry. You’ll also see that we’ve maintained this focus in this newsletter — so ensure you read our other articles!

Complementing the print guide is the Good Education AR (Augmented Reality) app, which provides additional interactive content such as an aptitude test, videos and a range of Career Ladders (a substitute for the Bullseye charts). See an app demonstration video here.
