The best universities to study mathematics in 2021

Mathematics is a language universally spoken. Having a mathematics degree opens a plethora of opportunities in industries from computer science to banking. Mathematicians are essential in developing some of the world’s most important innovations, such as social media algorithms and the creation of self-driving vehicles. 

A bachelor degree in math typically takes about three years to complete and can be extended into a masters and a doctor of philosophy. Knowledge of mathematics, and its complexities, can help in almost every career. 

Our ratings look at specific strengths of Australian universities, giving insight to support and guide your decision-making when choosing a university.   

This month, we looked at which Australian universities with undergraduate degrees in mathematics performed best in the categories of teaching quality, graduate salary and student support.  

Teaching quality  

This rating looks at the proportion of students who were satisfied with the quality of teaching they experienced. Bond University in Queensland ranked first with a score of 97.3%, and The University of Notre Dame Australia in placed a second with a score of 90.7%.   

Graduate Salary  

This rating compares the median salary of graduates from different universities. Curtin University in Western Australia ranked first with a median graduate salary of $71,400 and Monash University in Victoria placed a second with a median salary of $65,400.  

Student Support 

This rating looks at the proportion of students who felt they were engaged with learning at their institution. Bond University ranked first with a 94.4% satisfaction rate, while The University of Notre Dame Australia placed second with 91%.
