VET providers will no longer be able to charge withdrawal fees to students who drop out of their course before the education census date.

Students were previously forced to pay up to $1000 at some institutions if they decided to withdraw from their course. The changes are part of a wider crackdown on VET providers that came into effect on 1 July 2015. Other measures include banning providers from marketing VET courses as ‘free’ or ‘government-funded’ and ensuring providers supply clear and accurate information about VET-FEE HELP assistance and course fees. Further changes are due to be implemented in January next year.
