Which universities are the best for nursing?

Nurses are an integral role within the health sector — the role is not limited to hospitals and can extend to areas like the military, schools, dental offices or prison services. The path to becoming a qualified and registered nurse also varies depending on whether the student is considering specialised areas of the profession.

We looked at which universities with undergraduate nursing degrees performed best in teaching quality, skills development, full-time employment and graduate salary. nursing

Teaching quality

This rating looks at the proportion of students who were satisfied with the quality of teaching they experienced. Swinburne University of Technology scored the highest with 95.80%, followed by The University of Notre Dame with 91%. This rating is based on student ratings of the overall educational experience and quality of teaching. 

Skills Development

This rating compares the proportion of students who were satisfied with the skill development they experience through their studies. It is based on the extent to which students felt their course developed their critical-thinking skills, ability to solve complex problems and ability to work with others. The University of Notre Dame scores the highest score with 93% while Swinburne University was placed second with 91.7%

Full-time employment

This rating compares the employment rates of graduates who were secured full-time employment four months after completing their course. University of Sydney ranked first with a 97.2% employment rate, followed closely by University of  Woollongong with 93%. 

Graduate Salary

This rating compares the median salary of graduates from different universities. University of Southern Queensland took the top spot with nursing graduates earning a median salary of $65,200 a year. Curtin University secured second place with students earning a median annual salary of $64,700.
